Limited Edition of 1,200 January 2006 John Gilroy designed and inspired some of the great advertising campaigns of the middle part of the 20th Century for GUINNESS®. Gilroy’s animals had been a fairly docile bunch until, in 1937 he showed the keeper being chased by a lion. It was perhaps a surprising choice since most people feel rather less at ease with a lion than, say, a sealion! However Gilroy did give his lion a twinkling eye and a genial smile that helped to belie his carnivorous tendencies.
